Review Policy

From time to time, I receive complimentary books, DVDs, CDs, and software from authors, publishers, musicians, artists, and distributors for review.

Review Priority

Complimentary review copies are given the highest priority in my reading and review schedule. If I am already in the middle of another book when yours arrives, I will finish that title before beginning yours. In the event of multiple review copies arriving around the same time, they will generally be reviewed in the order they were received.

Review Process

After receiving a review item, I will post a brief announcement on Civil War Notebook and add it to the "In the Review Queue" section of this page. Once the review has been published, I will email you a link to the completed review and remove the item from the review queue. As a result, each title will receive two mentions on the site: an announcement when it enters the review queue and the permanent published review.

Where Reviews Are Posted

Reviews are published on this blog and a link to the review will be posted on this page. I am also happy to post reviews on Amazon.com and other websites upon request.

Please understand that receiving a complimentary review copy does not guarantee a favorable review. Every review reflects my honest opinion of the work. While I cannot promise a positive review, I do promise one that is fair, thoughtful, and objective.

Review Schedule

Although turnaround times vary depending on my workload, I generally publish: Book reviews within 1–6 months of receipt and DVD, CD, and software reviews: within 1–4 weeks of receipt.
