This day, 2 o'clock,
P. M., a number of us crossed the James river in a canoe, in order to take a
view of an elegant building and garden belonging to Colonel Mead. He very
politely asked us in and gave us a drink of grog. In the evening Lieut. Collier
and self went to Capt. Wilkins' tent, and there spent the evening and part of
the night.
