The Vigilant
returned from up the River and joined the Fleet. Sailed the packet for England,
convoyed by the Niger Ship of War in which went General de Heister and the
Hessian Command devolved on Lt.-Gen'l Kniphuysen. This morning Sir Wm. Howe's
letters to Lt. General Burgoyne, to Deputy Quarter Master-General to be immediately
forwarded. Deserters came in, says Rebel Army are only 6000.
