Sailing over the banks of Newfoundland, we passed by several islands of ice, which came floating down from the river St. Lawrence.

This morning we had a view of the mountains of Newfoundland, covered with snow; however, as we had been forty days at sea without seeing any land, this dreary island was very pleasant to our sight.
