reached Perth Amboy at noon, where we discovered the enemy on Staten Island.
The inhabitants seem to be friends to our present struggle.

Sir Wm Howe left Amboy at 11 o'clock with an Escort of one officer and 20 dragoons for Brunswick. Troops to be left at Amboy—2 Battalions Anspach—one Battalion Waldeckers & 55th Regiment.

The Line left Amboy under the Command of General Vaughan and arrived at Brunswick the rear Encamping at Piscataqua. Myself with the Corps of Engineers, Artillery, tools & left Amboy and arrived at Brunswick and began to work on 3 redoubts.
